About Nepal

Nepal officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked Himalayan country located in South Asia, occupies 147,516 sq. km of area. Nepal is divided into 7 provinces and 77 districts. It has 753 local units, including 6 Metropolitan Cities, 11 Sub-Metropolitan Cities, 276 Municipalities, and 460 Rural Municipalities. According to the 2021 census, Nepal has a population of 29,164,578. Geographically, Nepal is divided into three regions: Himal (Mountain) region, Pahad (hill) region and the Tarai region.

The Himalayan region containing snow and situated in the Great Himalayan Range; it makes up the northern part of Nepal. Eight of the world’s highest peaks (out of fourteen) that are above 8000 m lie in Nepal: Mount Everest (8,848 m 29,028 ft), Kanchenjunga (8,586 m/28,169 ft ), Lhotse (8,516 m/ 27,939), Makalu (8,463 m / 27765 ft), Cho Oyu (8,201 m /26,906 ft ), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m / 26794 ft), Manaslu (8,163 m / 26781 ft) and Annapurna (8,091 m / 26545 ft).

Pahad is the hill region that does not generally contain snow. The hills vary from 800 to 4,000 meters (2,600 to 13,100 ft) in altitude, with progression from subtropical climates below 1,200 meters (3,900 ft) to alpine climates above 3,600 meters (11,800 ft).

The southern part or Terai is the lowland region containing Churia hill Range.
