Island (Imjatse) Peak Climbing Overview

Everest Base Camp trek and Island (Imjatse) Peak Climbing is lodge trekking with few days camping service. This trip leads through many traditional Sherpa villages famous as mountaineers and warm hospitality and has been a high altitude porters and guides since last five decades.

Island Peak (Imja Tse) is one of the most popular trekking peaks in Nepal, standing at 6,189 meters (20,305 feet) in the Khumbu region. This climb offers a fantastic combination of high-altitude trekking and mountaineering.

Khumbu Himalayas range locate the Mt. Everest (8,848 m / 29,029 ft), Lhotse (8,516 m / 27,940 ft), Mt. Makalu (8,463 m / 27,766 ft), Nuptse (7,861 m / 25,790 ft), Lho-La or Khumbutse peak (6,665 m /21,866 ft), Mt. Lingtren (6,749 m / 22,142 ft), Chnagtse ( 7,553 m / 24,780 ft), Mt. Pumori (7,165 m / 23507 ft), Ama Dablam ( 6,856m / 22,493 ft), Kangtenga (6,685 m / 21,932 ft), Thamserku ( 6,608 m / 21,680 ft), Kwangde (6,011 m / 19,837 ft), Kusum Khangaru (6,373 m / 20,908 ft), Khumbi-la (5,761 m / 18,900 ft), Island Peak or Imjatse (6,189 m / 20,305 ft), Lobuche Peak (6,119 m/20,075 ft) Pokhalde ( 5,806 m / 19,048 ft) and many other smaller peaks. Other attractions of this trek are huge glaciers, lakes, river, gorge, hills, flora and fauna, Sherpa cultures, Buddhist monastery, and so on.

The Everest Base Camp Trek starts with the thrilling and adventures short flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. We will pass several villages, suspension bridges, rivers, forest and will rich the Kalapathar at 5,550 m / 18,210 ft). Kalapathar is the best view point for Mount Everest and panoramic Mountain View.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft), transfer to hotel

Day 2: Fly to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft) trek to Phakding (2,610 m / 8,563 ft) Distance: 8 km / 5 miles, Duration: 3 – 4 hours

Day 3: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft) Distance: 11 km / 7 miles, Duration: 5 – 6 hours

Day 4: Acclimatization day, Hike to Syangboche and back to Namche Bazaar, Duration: 4-5 hours

Day 5: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860 m / 12,664 ft) Distance: 10 km / 6 miles, Duration: 5 – 6 hours

Day 6: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,380 m / 14,370 ft) Distance: 9 km / 5.5 miles, Duration: 5 – 6 hours

Island Peak Climbing Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft) and transfer to hotel

Welcome to Nepal Himalaya! We will meet at Kathmandu airport and transfer you to your hotel.The Kathmandu is a vibrant capital city of Nepal. You will observe the bustling streets and  alley with the aromas of local cuisine and the vibrant colors of traditional attire.

Day 2: Fly to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft) from Kathmandu or Manthali and trek to Phakding (2,610 m / 8,563 ft)

We will transfer to the Kathmandu airport to fly to Lukla. The flight offers fascinating views from the airplane windows. We start an easy hike to Phakding. We can see the beautiful mountain Kusum Kangaru from Thadokoshi village. We will pass through a beautiful valley, Sherpa villages, monasteries, Chortens, prayer flags, Mani, and a few mountains. Phakding is situated in the Dudh Kosi river valley. (Approximately 35 min fly and 3 hours trek)

 

The flight to Lukla will be rerouted from Manthali, Ramechhap in March, April, May, October and November due to traffic overcrowding in Kathmandu. To catch a flight from Manthali, we must leave around 2 a.m. from Kathmandu for scheduled departure from Manthali. (Approximately 5 hours drive, 20 min fly and 3 hours trek)

Day 3: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft), Distance: 11 km / 7 miles, Duration: 5 - 6 hours

On this day, we will trek from Phakding through Monju, and end up in the big and beautiful town Namche Bazaar. The trekking trail follows along the Dudhkoshi River and enters Sagarmatha National Park. After crossing the bridge over Dudhkoshi River at the junction of Dudhkoshi River and Bhotekoshi River, the trail leads all the way up to Namche. Namche Bazaar has many big lodges, hotels, restaurants, bakeries, cafes, bookshops, trekking shops, souvenir shops, internet cafes, communication centers, post offices, laundry services, massage centers, airline sales agents, monasteries, museums, the National Park Headquarters, police offices, army posts, commercial banks, and a helipad.

Day 4:Acclimatization day, Hike to Syangboche and back to Namche Bazaar, Duration: 4-5 hours

Acclimatization is important before proceeding to higher elevations. Most trekkers spend two nights in Namche. On this day, we can visit Hotel Everest View located in Syangboche for panoramic mountain views, including Mt. Everest.

Day 5: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860 m / 12,664 ft), Distance: 10 km / 6 miles, Duration: 5 - 6 hours

The day begins with an easy, flat walk. The trail is full of beauty, including panoramic mountains, hills, villages, forests, rivers, and religious artifacts. Tengboche is located at 3,860 meters / 12660 feet above sea level. After reaching Tengboche, we can visit a very popular and large monastery where many monks chant and pray every morning and evening.

Day 6: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,380 m / 14,370 ft), Distance: 9 km / 5.5 miles, Duration: 5 - 6 hours

Today, we will descend through the rhododendron forest to Dingboche village. After crossing the Dudhkoshi River via a suspension bridge, the trail gradually ascends to Pangboche village, Somare village, and finally to the big Dingboche village. Along the way, we can enjoy views of many mountains, including Mt. Everest, and the charming shape of Mt. Ama Dablam. Although we cross the tree line today, local people in Dingboche grow potatoes, buckwheat, barley, and some vegetables.

Day 7: Acclimatization day

This is another day for acclimatization. We will hike uphill along the ridge and enjoy views of Mt. Makalu, other mountains, Chhukung village, the Imja Valley, and the beautiful landscape.

Day 8: Dingboche to Lobuche (4,910 m / 16,109 ft), Distance: 7 km / 4.5 miles, Duration: 5-6 hours

We will mostly walk on a flat trail up to Thugla. From Thugla, the trail becomes steep for about an hour before continuing on a flat path to Lobuche. Lobuche village is situated at the base of Lobuche peak and offers wonderful mountain views.

Day 9: Lobuche to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m / 17,923 ft) and back to Gorakshep (5,170 m / 16,962 ft), Distance: 16 km / 10 miles, Duration: 7-8 hours

Today will be a longer day of hiking due to the high altitude. The initial easy trail from Lobuche leads us to Gorakshep. After a short rest and some food in Gorakshep, we will continue our journey to the ultimate destination of Everest Base Camp. The trail to Everest Base Camp takes us through rocky dunes, moraines, and glacial debris. Along the way, we will see the Khumbu Glacier, Khumbu Icefall, and many towering mountains. We will return to Gorakshep for overnight stay.

Day 10: Trek to Kala Patthar (5,550 m / 18,209 ft) then trek to Dingboche (4,400 m / 14,500 ft) Distance: 16 km/10 miles, Duration: 7-8 hours

We will start hiking early in the morning to reach Kala Patthar, where we can capture glorious and magnificent views of Mt. Everest at sunrise. Kala Patthar is the best and closest viewpoint for capturing amazing pictures of Everest and the Khumbu (Mahalangur) Himalaya range. After descending to Gorakshep for breakfast, we will hike to Dingboche.

Day 11: Dingboche to Chhukung (4,730m/15420ft): 3-4 hours

We trek to Chhukung, Imja Valley. Chhukkung is a beautiful small village at the bottom of Chhukung Ri peak. This is the last village to Island Peak. We will do preparation for Island peak climbing.

Day 12: Chhukung to Island Peak Base camp (5,200m/17060ft): 3-4 hours

Today, we will head to Island Peak Base Camp. We will see a very big Imja lake.

Day 13: Island Peak Base Camp to Island Peak Summit (6,189m/20305ft), back to base camp: 10-12 hours

Early in the morning we start to climb Island Peak.  The views from the top is really unbelievable. After exploring the summit, we trek back to the base camp.

Day 14: Island Peak Base Camp to Pangboche(3,960m/13000ft) 5-6 hours

We trek back down to  Chhukung, Dingbuche, Somare, and then finally reach Pangboche. We can visit there the oldest monastery of the Khumbu region.

Day 15: Pangboche to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m / 11,286 ft) Distance: 16 km/10 miles, Duration: 6-7 hours

We are heading back down through Tengboche to Namche even though we have to walk up hill.

Day 16: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,840 m / 9,318 ft) Distance: 19 km/12 miles, Duration: 6 - 7 hours

We will trek to Lukla, passing through several local villages. Today is our last night in the mountains.

Day 17: Morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, Day time free

We will fly back to Kathmandu, and you will be transferred to your hotel. You are free to rest after conquering the Himalayas.

Day 18: Kathmnadu Valley Sightseeing

Kathmandu valley sightseeing tour will start after breakfast. We will visit four UNESCO world heritage sites in Kathmandu. Heritage site tour includes the Pashupatinath temple, Boudha Stupa, Swoyambhu stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square. You will get the opportunity to observe historical, religious and cultural aspect of Nepal. You will also see Nepalese architecture containing palaces, buildings, temples, Stupas, carving, mason and metal work. After the tour we will back to hotel. Ace Hiking offers a farewell dinner in an authentic Nepalese restaurant.

Day 19: Departure to the International Airport

Today you can do last-minute shopping or other activities. We will drop you at the Kathmandu international airport 3 hours before your scheduled flight. We will say goodbye with happy memories and hope to see you again.
