Nepal’s “Sweet Spot” Adventure
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a remote teahouse journey that circles the world’s eighth-highest mountain, Mt. Manaslu (8,163m). For many, it hits the perfect balance between wild Himalayan scenery and profound cultural depth.

Our trek begins by following the upstream flow of the Budhi Gandaki. After passing through Khorla Besi, we reach the natural hot springs of Tatopani. The trail winds dramatically along the riverbank before crossing a suspension bridge to enter Jagat, a clean, stone-paved village that serves as the entry point to the Manaslu Restricted Area.
Today marks a distinct change in culture. The trail weaves through deep canyons and colorful forests of oak and rhododendron. We begin to encounter the first hand-carved Mani walls (Buddhist prayer stones). The day ends in the beautiful village of Namrung, which offers the first high-altitude atmosphere of the trek.
Today is likely a spectacular day of trekking. We climb steadily through the village of Lho, home to a massive Buddhist monastery and ancient Chhortens. The highlight of the day is the arrival in Shyala, an alpine meadow surrounded by a 360-degree theater of peaks, including the most intimate views of Mt. Manaslu.
Before settling in Samagaun, we take a side trip to the sacred Pungyen Monastery. Tucked away in a hidden valley, this monastery offers a profound look into Tibetan Buddhist spirituality. We then descend into Samagaun, the largest and most significant village in the region.
A short but vital ascent to the high camp. We cross an icy stream and climb through a dry, lunar-like landscape. Upon reaching the basic lodge at Dharmasala, we recommend a short “acclimatization stroll” further up the hill to help your body adjust before the big crossing tomorrow.
