Annapurna Circuit Trek Overview

Annapurna Circuit Trek is beautiful and diverse classic route of Nepal. This Trek also known as Thorong La Pass Trek (5,416 m / 17,769 ft) invites you to explore nature, landscape, people, religion, culture and majestic views of the ice coated Annapurna Himalayas.

Annapurna region is unique place for flora and fauna with beautiful high mountains. Annapurna region is concerned as world’s most exciting and visually spectacular treks.

Nepal has eight mountains above 8,000 meters. In this trip, we will see mountains Annapurna I (8,091 m / 26,545 ft) the 10th highest mountain in the world, Dhaulagiri (8,167 m / 26,779 ft), Manaslu (8,163 m / 26,781 ft), Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Tukuche, Nilgiri and many mountains. They are mountains, huge mountains plastered with ice and snow, sharp crest, fang and domes. An extensive wall like a massive saw blade shining in the sunlight.

Annapurna region is the most ethnically and geographically diverse region. We will pass the many old villages where we will get opportunity to learn their daily activities, people and culture. In this trip we will see Buddhist monument, prayer flags, Stupas, Chortens, Monasteries, temples, prayer wheels and memorial places. Nepal holds numerous opportunities for the trekker. You will wonder to treat the people and their landscape with the respect and love they deserve.

We will start this trek from lower valley of Marshyangdi river and gradually we gain altitude to the ultimate height of 5,416 m in Thorong-la Pass top. After crossing Thorong-la pass, we will descend down comparatively faster along the Kaligandaki River Valley. We will pass villages Muktinath, Jomsome, Marpha and many more. Muktinath is popular pilgrimage site for both Hindu and Buddhist.

Mountain and valley views are constantly changing. Annapurna Circuit Trek begins with breezy terraces of diverse vegetation in Marsyangdi valley and leads to the different landscape into the rain shadow part of the Himalayas. Now, Trek duration is being shorter because of road extend so we can customize our plan according to your desire and duration.

Sub tropical forests are inhabited by monkey and deer, singing birds in spring. There are colorful woods of rhododendron, oak, maple, walnut and pine.

Annapurna region covers the area of 7,600 square km / 2,934 square miles as Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). ACAP is taking care, controlling, repairing damages and preventing further environmental and cultural decline.

ACT Itinerary Detail

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Beshisahar (850 m / 2,790 ft) and drive to Jagat (1,300m / 4,265ft)

We will take a bus from Kathmandu to Beshisahar and again drive to Jagat. The road is good until Bhulbhule, and then the road is rough bumpy and dusty. This is long drive about 9 hours.

Day 2: Trek from Jagat to Dharapani (1,860 m / 6,102 ft) 5-6 hours

We will cross the Marshyandi River nearby Chamje village. We have to cross several time bridges over the Marshyandi River. We will pass Tal village, Karte, Dharapani and Bagarchhap.

Day 3: Dharapani to Chame (2,670 m / 8,760 ft) 5 - 6 hours

The way is up from Danaqu to Timang village. Timang village is beautiful and good view of Mt. Manaslu (8163 m). After Timang village, the way is straight, a little, down and short up to Koto. The Koto is gateway to Nar-Phu valley trek. We walk 45 min from Koto to Chame village. Chame is big village and district headquarters of Manang district as well.

Day 4: Chame to Pisang (3,200 m / 10,490 ft) 5 - 6 hours

This day begins with crossing the Marshyandi River by suspension bridge. We will see good Mountain View of Lamjung Himal and lower ridge of Annapurna II. We will pass long Mane wall and Bratang village, Dhikur Pokhari (lake) and will reach Pisang village.

Day 5: Pisang to Manang (3,540 m / 11,615 ft) 6 - 7 hours

Today is good excursion day. We will trek to Manang through the alternative route, longer route passing Ghyaru and Ngawal village. Ghyaru and Ngawal villages are very old in traditional structure with the panoramic view of Annapurna and Gangapurna. Manang is a big village with facilitated lodge and restaurant.

Day 6: Acclimatization day

Acclimatization day is to be fit to encounter Thorong-la pass at 5416 meters. We will have day trip around Manang.

Day 7: Manang to Yak Kharka (4,050 m / 13,280 ft) 3 - 4 hours

The trail is up to Tanki village. Tanki is the last village to Thorong-la top. The way is gradual up mostly flat way from Tanki to Yak Kharka. Yak Kharka means pasture land for Yak. We can see many yaks.

Day 8: Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4,450 m / 14,590 ft) 3 - 4 hours

Way is slightly up to Ledar. After Ledar, the way is mostly straight with short down and up. Today, probably we may see wild animal Blue Sheep. We will reach Thorong Phedi or Thorong base camp for lunch and overnight.

Day 9: Thorong Phedi to Muktinath (3,800 m / 12,467 ft) via Thorong La pass (5416m / 17780ft) 7 - 8 hours

Today is comparatively difficult and long day of this trip. We will start early in the morning with head light. Phedi means bottom of the hill. The very beginning trail is steep up for an hour to high camp and gradual up and up to Thorong-la top. It takes 4 hours from Thorong Phedi (4550 meters) to Thorong-la top at 5416 meters. After reaching top, we will have some snap capture and 4 hours descent to Muktinath.

Day 10: Muktinath to Pokhara (820 m / 2,690 ft)

We will take bus or Jeep to Pokhara. The rough and bumpy road makes different experience.

Day 11: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,593 ft) 7 hours

Today in the morning we get tourist bus for Kathmandu.

Q1: How difficult is Annapurna Circuit Trek?

Annapurna Circuit trek is relatively harder and longer in duration than the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. It is because trekkers will be hiking across the high-altitude Thorong La Pass at 5,416m  / 17,764 feet. Trekkers do not require technical training or rock climbing and mountaineering skills but you need to be physically fitness to hike 6 to 8 hours daily.

Q2: What is the best time to do the Annapurna Circuit Trek?

The best months to do the Annapurna Circuit Trek is February, March, April, May, September, October, November, and December. During these months, the weather is generally favorable with clear skies and mild temperatures, making for optimal trekking conditions and stunning mountain views.

Q3: Who are my Guides and Porters?

Our trekking guides are trained and hold a trekking guide license issued by the Nepalese government. All of our guides are local with a deep understanding of the mountains, culture, health and your safety. All of our guides are skilled, experienced, courteous and helpful. They are proficient in English and will be able to communicate effectively with you throughout the trip.

Q4: What type of Foods available during the trek?

You can get verity of meals including typical Nepali Dal Bhat (Rice, Curry and lentils), breads, noodles, soups, eggs, toast, potato varieties, pizza, pasta, burger items are common choices in the menu. Breakfast and dinner will be served from tea house or lodge where we stay overnight and lunch will be served on the way to next destination. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included during the trek; only breakfast is included in Pokhara.

Q5: What about Drinking Water?

Boiled water and safe drinking water options are available along the trekking route. We do not recommend you drink water from local sources such as taps, wells, and rivers.

Q6: What types of Accommodations available?

You will be accommodated in 3 or 2 star level hotel in Pokhara. During the trek, you will have a private room in guesthouses and lodges. In some cases, during peak season, you need to share a room with others.

Q7: Do I need Travel Insurance?

Yes, it is necessary to have insurance to join this Annapurna Circuit Trek. Your insurance should cover cost of Helicopter rescue and treatment.

Q8: Do I need Day Backpack?

Yes, while porters can carry the majority of your belongings, it’s recommended to carry a small day backpack yourself. This backpack can hold essentials such as drinking water, snacks, sunscreen, camera, sunglasses and any other items you may need easy access to during the day hike.

Q9: Is there Porter Luggage Limit?

Yes, trekkers should note that the luggage limit for a porter is 20kg, and typically, there is one porter assigned for every two trekkers. It’s advisable to pack efficiently and within this weight limit to ensure ease of transportation during the trek.
