Annapurna Base Camp Trek Overview

Annapurna Base Camp is also known as Annapurna Sanctuary Trek; easier and beautiful trek in Nepal. Annapurna Base camp lies in the heart of great block of mountains and at the head of the Modi River.

Annapurna Base Camp (Sanctuary) Trek incorporates diverse culture, wild life and beautiful terrain. A miracle of ice-sculpted peaks gathered in an almost complete circle. We will have close up view of Annapurna Himalaya range and Dhaulagiri range. In spring, colorful and beautiful rhododendrons flower bloom.

This Trek starts from rice field terrace and gradual goes up to glaciers and reach Annapurna base camp at 4,130 meters, bottom of the Mt. Annapurna. We can see top to bottom views of Annapurna I, Annapurna glaciers, ice fall and many mountains.

Sub tropical forests are inhabited by monkey and deer, singing birds in spring. There are colorful woods of rhododendron, oak, maple, walnut and pine. There are bushes of bamboo and forest of alpine trees.

Annapurna region is taking care by Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in area of 7,600 square km / 2,934 square miles with the aim of repairing damage caused in the past and preventing further environmental and cultural decline.

ABC Itinerary Detail

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820 m / 2,690 ft) 7-8 hours

We take a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, enjoying beautiful views along the Trishuli River. Leaving behind the bustling streets of Kathmandu, we pass through lush landscapes with green hills with terraced fields and traditional villages. The Trishuli River is popular for white water rafting.

Drive to Hile (2.5hours) and trek to Ulleri (2,050 m / 6,726 ft) 5-6 hours

We drive to Hile. After Hile, we hike to Ulleri via Tikhedhunga village. We cross the Bhurungdi River and upward trail with thousands steps and boulders to reach Ulleri village

Day 3: Ulleri to Ghorepani (2,860 m / 9,383 ft) 4-5 hours

After breakfast, we start hike ascending towards Ghorepani. We pass waterfalls, small villages, and tea-houses before reaching Ghorepani. The name Ghorepani in Nepali means ‘horse-water’. We stop at the higher part of the Ghorepani village called Deurali, that offers wonderful views of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Nilgiri mountains.

Day 4: Ghorepani to Poon Hill to Tadapani (2,630 m / 8,630 ft) 7-8 hours

We will reach Poonhill before sun rising. Poon hill is popular visitor’s park Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalaya range. We can observe the deepest George between too high mountains Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. We can see many mountains, valleys, ridges and forest from Poonhill. After enjoying there, we return back to Ghorepani. After breakfast in Ghorepani, we trek to Tadapani.

Day 5: Tadapani to Chhomrong (2,170 m / 7,120 ft) 5-6 hours

The trail descends all the way to Kimrong River. After crossing the river by suspension bridge, we hike more uphill and downhill to reach our destination Chhomrong. Chhomrong a beautiful village lies on the lap of Annapurna South Mountain.

Day 6: Chhomrong to Dovan (2,600 m / 8,530 ft) 5-6 hours

We will leave Chhomrong after breakfast, and walk down steps on stone paved to the Chhomrong Khola, river. We cross a suspension bridge over the river and begin an uphill climb to Sinuwa. Our trail passes through a beautiful forest and thick bamboos bushes. Today we enter to the special managed zone Annapurna Sanctuary.

Day 7: Dovan to Deurali (3,230 m / 10,597 ft) 4-5 hours

We walk to Deurali through Himalaya. Deurali is located at the bottom of big cliff. Today we have to walk mostly gradual up and very short down. We will enjoy with forest, waterfall, Hinku Cave, birds and animals.

Day 8: Deurali to Annapurna Base camp (4,130 m / 13,550 ft) 5 - 6 hours

We have to walk 3 hour to get Machhapuchre Base Camp (MBC). There is possibility of avalanche if heavy snow there, so we have to be careful. Machhapuchre base camp is nice and beautiful place. We can see many mountains. Now we have more 400m ascent to get ABC, about 2 hours walk from MBC. ABC (Annapurna Base Camp) is beautiful place surrounded by mountain. We can see bottom to top part of Annapurna I, many mountains, glacier, memorials and flags. There is recently build memorial statue of Maurice Herzog, the first Annapurna I climber.

Day 9: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (2,310 m / 7,580 ft) 6-7 hours

Today, we back down following the same trail we had. The trail descends by 1,700 m to the Bamboo at 2,345 meters.

Day 10: Bamboo to Jhinu (1,780 m / 5,840 ft) 5-6 hours

 

We trek to Chhomrong and then way descend to Jhinu. Jhinu is popular because of nearby natural hot spring.

Day 11: Trek to Siwai 1,460m and drive to Pokhara 800m, 04 hours for trekking, and 03 hours drive

We have reached our final day on the trekking trails. Today, you will make a pleasant hike along the Modi River. We reach Siwai and drive to Pokhara.

Day 12: Drive to Kathmandu, 200 kilometers /125 miles, 07 hours drive

Morning a scenic drive to Kathmandu, after a wonderful memorable trip in the high mountains of Annapurna area,  then on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotel.

Q1: How difficult is Annapurna Base CampTrek?

Annapurna Circuit trek is relatively harder and longer in duration than the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. It is because trekkers will be hiking across the high-altitude Thorong La Pass at 5,416m  / 17,764 feet. Trekkers do not require technical training or rock climbing and mountaineering skills but you need to be physically fitness to hike 6 to 8 hours daily.

Q2: What is the best time to do the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?

The best months to do the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is February, March, April, May, September, October, November, and December. During these months, the weather is generally favorable with clear skies and mild temperatures, making for optimal trekking conditions and stunning mountain views.

Q3: Who are my Guides and Porters?

Our trekking guides are trained and hold a trekking guide license issued by the Nepalese government. All of our guides are local with a deep understanding of the mountains, culture, health and your safety. All of our guides are skilled, experienced, courteous and helpful. They are proficient in English and will be able to communicate effectively with you throughout the trip.

Q4: What type of Foods available during the trek?

You can get verity of meals including typical Nepali Dal Bhat (Rice, Curry and lentils), breads, noodles, soups, eggs, toast, potato varieties, pizza, pasta, burger items are common choices in the menu. Breakfast and dinner will be served from tea house or lodge where we stay overnight and lunch will be served on the way to next destination. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included during the trek; only breakfast is included in Pokhara.

Q5: What about Drinking Water?

Boiled water and safe drinking water options are available along the trekking route. We do not recommend you drink water from local sources such as taps, wells, and rivers.

Q6: What types of Accommodations available?

You will be accommodated in 3 or 2 star level hotel in Pokhara. During the trek, you will have a private room in guesthouses and lodges. In some cases, during peak season, you need to share a room with others.

Q7: Do I need Travel Insurance?

Yes, it is necessary to have insurance to join this Annapurna Circuit Trek. Your insurance should cover cost of Helicopter rescue and treatment.

Q8: Do I need Day Backpack?

Yes, while porters can carry the majority of your belongings, it’s recommended to carry a small day backpack yourself. This backpack can hold essentials such as drinking water, snacks, sunscreen, camera, sunglasses and any other items you may need easy access to during the day hike.

Q9: Is there Porter Luggage Limit?

Yes, trekkers should note that the luggage limit for a porter is 20kg, and typically, there is one porter assigned for every two trekkers. It’s advisable to pack efficiently and within this weight limit to ensure ease of transportation during the trek.

    Massif Annapurna winter trek

    It was the most different and wonderful experience while trekking in Annapurna region with ace hiking and Megendra Giri.
    Starting from ghandruk to ABC and back to Pokhara it is such a beautiful places,valleys, snow cap mountains, best food and stay on the way.
    Great thing is the people in nepal and hospitality that they provide to their guests.
    Trekking in such a cold month with snowfall and challenging weather won’t be possible without Megendra Giri.
