Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is easily accessible from Kathmandu. Shivapuri is one of the most popular Hiking trail nearby Kathmandu for bird watching, Mountain View and religious purpose. Shivapuri day hiking offers beautiful Himalaya view of Langtang Himalaya range, Rolwaling Himalaya, Kathmandu valley view, Budhanilkantha temple, Nangi Gompa, green forest, Baghdwar (origin of Baghmati river) and terrace field etc. Shivapuri hill is situated at the elevation of 2,630 m, which is the best view point of this hiking.
Early in the morning, we take local bus or private car to Budhanilkantha, there is a sleeping statue of God Bishnu. After visiting the Hindu shrine, further drive or walk to Muhanpani. We have to get national park ticket in Muhanpani Check post. After the check post, our hiking starts along the rough road to the Nagi Gompa (Nunnery Monastery) than trail goes steep up to the Shivapuri hill through the oak, pine and rhododendron forest. We return back by drive from Budhanilkantha to Kathmandu.
Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park (159 sq km) established in 2002, is the closest national park from Kathmandu valley. Shivapuri is the main source of drinking water for Kathmandu dwellers. Shivapuri lies in a transition zone between subtropical and temperate climates. The vegetation consists of a variety of natural forest types including pine, oak, rhododendron etc, depending on altitude and aspect. The park is home for many animals, 177 species of birds, including at least 9 threatened species, 102 species of butterflies with a number of rare and endangered species, and 129 species of mushroom.
Hiking to Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park (5-6 hours)
We take private car to Pani Muhan check post. We hike to Baghdwar, Shivapuri Hill and return back to Pani Muhan via Nagi Gompa (Nunnery Monastery). We return back by car from Pani Muhan to your hotel. This day we explore wild life, flora and fauna as well as mountin view.
